Bio:

Amanda Arellano, a 19-year-old Latinx student photographer, born in the East LA area, currently lives in the Boyle Heights area. Alongside being a college freshman, Amanda is a resilient, creative, and empowering activist with special needs. Their mom is a large inspiration to them. Furthermore, what Amanda likes best about themselves is their ability to be resilient and to persevere through difficult times. Moreover, Arellano’s life changed upon receiving their first computer at a coding class. Additionally, after receiving an iPad from a YouTube club, motivating them to start filming their own videos. Finally, in 2021, when Amanda created and presented The World Through Our Eyes, a film exploring the standards of society obscuring each alumni’s identity, as a result of joining a women’s empowerment/rights film class. Amanda, a creative, unique event photographer, who enjoys portraiture and candid photos, plans to work in the Computer Science area.

Artist Statement:

My work’s themes include different types of looks and aesthetics, and photos of advocative or private events in the Boyle Heights area. Most of my work is portraiture and candid photography. Thus, while shooting, I try to find the perfect moment to do my work, and try to manipulate everything in a studio environment, including directing the poses my subject makes, to create eye-appealing and memorable photos for events, that might sometimes speak a powerful message.
